About Alpaca Fleece

Alpaca fleece is extraordinarily soft and warm, comes in more natural colors than any other fiber producing animal, and has delightful characteristics (such as it's ability to felt) that make it highly sought by everyone from high fashion clothing designers to hand-spinners! Alpaca fiber can made into yarn (and then knitted, woven, or felted into garments and accessories) or roving for hand-spinners or into blankets, pillows, rugs, stuffed animals, purses and more, limited only by one's creativity and imagination. American alpaca products are 100% natural and easy on the environment to produce plus they are wonderfully delightful!

Alpaca is comparable to cashmere in it's fineness while still being extremely strong and warm even when knitted or woven into a very thin product.

Alpaca fleece grows on the animals in a range of colors classed into 22 color categories by the Alpaca Registry Inc. (ARI) that range from white to black, with all shades in between including shades of brown, beige, silver greys and rose-grays. The natural colors are beautiful and dye-free, and the white fleece can be easily dyed into all manner of other colors as well.

While sheep's wool contains lanolin that is oily, needs to be washed out and can cause allergies, alpaca fleece is not oily and generally does not cause allergies.
